		<description>Saltburn Pier

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is the proud home of the last remaining cast-iron Victorian Pleasure Pier on the North-East Coast and through a process of neglect and eventual demolition of the Coatham and Redcar Piers a few miles North of Saltburn it now stands alone as the most Northerly surviving pier in England.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/Pier.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/Pier_o.jpg" data-mid="12701831"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Saltburn Cliff Lift

Opened on 28th June 1884, the oldest water balanced cliff lift in Britain goes up 120 ft on a track of 207 ft. Now refurbished with stained glass windows, it links Saltburn pier and the lower promenade with the upper promenade and the town.

Open: Easter-Oct, times vary.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/lift.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/lift_o.jpg" data-mid="12701827"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Surfing

Saltburn by the Sea is perhaps not the first place you'd expect to find an excellent surfing beach, yet the north-facing sands consistently come up with the goods and recent years have seen the development of a large community of surfers. The North Sea may often look grey and uninviting, but you'll find great beach breaks on either side of the old pier, which work best at high tide and are well suited to beginners and intermediates - it has a North facing break that picks up most swell on this stretch of coast.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/Surfing.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/Surfing_o.jpg" data-mid="12701837"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

The Saltburn Minature Railway

Established in 1947 as a tourist attraction, which it remains so until this day thanks to the hard work of the volunteers of the Saltburn Minature Railway Association. The line is a 1ft 3″ (381mm) Gauge and runs for 0.5 miles (800m) between two stations.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/raileay.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/raileay_o.jpg" data-mid="12701836"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Farmers' Market

In Easter 2008 the Farmers’ Market was launched in Station Square, Saltburn, and in the past three years it has grown to be a substantial success, with 3,789 people attending the market in May 2010.

Held on average 8 times a year, the Farmers’ Market is organised by Food First, a social enterprise of over 20 locally based food producers and retailers.

Saltburn Farmers’ Market is a family-friendly enterprise aiming to promote the social, economic and environmental benefits of locally produced food.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/FarmersMarket.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/FarmersMarket_o.jpg" data-mid="12701833"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Saltburn Gill Nature Reserve

Saltburn Gill is 52 acres of ancient woodland bordered on the west hand side by a stream of the same name. A protected nature reserve it was awarded the designation of biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1984.

The reserve principally consists of a mixture of Oak and Ash with a Hazel and Holly under-storey. Managed Sycamore has replaced the Wych Elm that proliferated prior to the arrival of Dutch Elm disease, which has changed the consistency of the original woodland, which dates back to before 1600.

&#60;img src="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/SaltGIll.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="795" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload10.cargocollective.com/1/5/183141/2513351/SaltGIll_o.jpg" data-mid="12701830"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Saltburn Golf Club

Saltburn Golf Club was founded in 1894 and is located on the outskirts of Saltburn in North Yorkshire.

Special features of the course are the magnificent views out to sea and inland to the North Yorkshire National Park and the famous Roseberry Topping.

The club has won the William Leech Trophy and Gold Medal for first place in the grounds of Universities, Colleges and Sports Grounds in the Britain in Bloom, Northumbria Region, Competition. They are proud of this accolade which enhances the magnificent views that surround them.

They are a very friendly club, that welcomes both new members and visitors alike.

They are particularly pleased to support the Golf 4 Heroes scheme through which they offer injured servicemen complimentary tee times, thus showing our support for their contribution to our country.

Saltburn Arts Bank

ArtsBank is a major new artistic initiative, privately funded, and based on Teesside. Successful local businessman Bryan Goodall (FRSA and chairman of the Hambleton Group) has formed ArtsBank, with a £600k initial investment. ArtsBank aims to give a massive boost to the work of creative people across the north east, and beyond. It has acquired and converted a substantial Victorian property (the old HSBC bank) in the heart of the beautiful and spectacular resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The whole building has been transformed into a five-floor gallery and centre for the arts, with something for everyone.

		<description>Saltburn by the Sea has maintained much of its original charm as a Victorian seaside resort including its pier, the colourful Italian Gardens and walks through Riftswood. Saltburn has the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain that is still in operation, linking the town with the pier 120 feet below. You can park at sea level where the old fishing village straddles Skelton Beck. The Ship Inn remains as a focal point, steeped in smuggling folklore. The Cleveland Way passes through along the coastline and follows a steep path up to Huntcliff, once the site of a Roman Signal Station.
